Vermont Furniture Designs is as #Shop- Local as it gets. This well-known, heir- loom furniture company in Winooski, Vermont, is owned by two talented woodworkers from the Green Mountain State. Their company has been providing the Burlington area with their stunning furniture for decades.

In this era of one-click, mass-produced buys and cheap, click-together furniture, Vermont Furniture Designs prides itself on building solid hardwood furniture that delivers custom quality without the custom price. The high-quality craftsmanship used in all of their products is really a work of art.
LEARNING THE TRADE
Their business has stood strong through all the ups and downs from these unpredictable last few years because their handcrafted furniture continues to be in high demand.
Vermont Furniture Designs has been making beautiful, hand-crafted furniture since 1970 and the owners, Rob Bachand and Adam Blaisdell, have over six decades of experience between them.
They learned the craft of making high- quality furniture from the original owner. They love what they do, and they love transforming pieces of wood into beautiful pieces of art.
Vermont Furniture Designs offers 10 separate and different furniture lines that span everything from classic Mission and Shaker styles to Mid-Century modern.
They also love making one-off, custom pieces for customers. A custom piece usually takes between 6 to 8 weeks to make and can be made with Cherry, Walnut, or Maple wood. They are up for any challenge, any design, and are very versatile.

FROM CLASSIC TO CUSTOM
While their furniture lines stay constant, they regularly create unique pieces to add to these lines. These experimental pieces are promptly put on display in their showroom at 4 Tigan St. in Winooski to get people’s reactions.
One thing that makes them unique is that every piece of furniture or wooden accessory they sell is built on-site. There is no off-site production, and they spare no expense to make sure their customers have a beautiful, functional, timeless piece of furniture that they can be proud to hand down through generations of the family.
When asked to describe their dream clients, owner Rob Bachand described them as,“anyone who gets excited about and appreciates the beauty of wood and the art of bringing the characteristics of a piece of lumber into a finished, heirloom dresser, table, or bed.”
This jewelry cabinet was built with two discrete side doors for hanging necklaces and a hinged cover for smaller pieces.
WHAT’S TRENDING
If you’re curious about current furniture trends—classic, clean lines are in. Industrial is out. And Rob wishes more people purchased waterfall tables. Adam is a big fan of open ten- ons in furniture. Open tenons draw attention to the woodworking of a piece by showing how the pieces fit together geometrically.
“Open tenons is a style we have been thinking about bringing to life here,” Adam said, “for our more traditional furniture lovers.”
These days, people have been spending their hard-earned money on experiences and timeless heirlooms with meaning. And that’s what makes Vermont Furniture Designs so special: Beautiful heirloom furniture that will last for generations with the experience of designing it yourself.
